Description

Thiruvathirai Kali is a traditional sweet porridge made during festivals.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup rice
  • 1 cup jaggery
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/4 cup grated coconut
  • 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • 1 tablespoon ghee
  • 1/4 cup roasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak the rice for 2 hours.
  2. Drain the rice and grind it coarsely.
  3. In a pot, boil water and add the ground rice.
  4. Stir continuously to avoid lumps.
  5. Cook until the mixture thickens.
  6. Add jaggery and mix until dissolved.
  7. Add grated coconut, cardamom powder, and ghee.
  8. Mix well and add roasted sesame seeds.
  9. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Adjust jaggery to taste.
  • Use fresh coconut for better flavor.
  • Serve with banana for extra taste.
