Ingredients

  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 tablespoons biryani masala
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1/4 cup chopped mint leaves
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons ghee or oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse basmati rice under cold water until water runs clear.
  2. Soak rice in water for 30 minutes.
  3. Heat ghee or oil in a pot over medium heat.
  4. Add sliced onions and sauté until golden brown.
  5. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute.
  6. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until soft.
  7. Add sliced mushrooms and cook until they release moisture.
  8. Add yogurt, biryani masala, and salt. Mix well.
  9. Add soaked rice and water. Stir gently.
  10. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low.
  11. Cover and cook for 20 minutes.
  12. Remove from heat and let it sit for 10 minutes before serving.
