Ingredients

  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 500 grams chicken, cut into pieces
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • 1/4 cup cooking oil
  • 2 teaspoons biryani masala
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 4 cups water
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken with yogurt, garlic, ginger, turmeric, biryani masala, and salt for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a pot and sauté onions until golden brown.
  3. Add marinated chicken and cook until browned.
  4. Add tomatoes and cook until soft.
  5. In a separate pot, boil water and add basmati rice with salt.
  6. Cook rice until it’s 70% done, then drain.
  7. Add the partially cooked rice to the chicken pot and mix gently.
  8. Cover the pot and cook on low heat for 20 minutes.
  9. Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
