Description
Chorba Frik is a traditional Algerian soup made with freekeh, meat, and vegetables.
Ingredients

- 1 cup freekeh
- 500g lamb or beef, cut into pieces
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 carrots, diced
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 cups water or broth
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley, for garnish
Instructions
- Rinse freekeh under cold water and set aside.
- In a pot, heat oil and sauté onion and garlic until soft.
- Add meat and brown on all sides.
- Add carrots, tomatoes, and bell pepper. Cook for a few minutes.
- Add water or broth, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat and simmer until meat is tender.
- Add freekeh and cook until tender, about 20 minutes.
- Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley.
Notes
- Adjust spices according to your taste.
- You can replace meat with chicken or keep it vegetarian.
- Serve with crusty bread for a complete meal.
