Description

Chorba Frik is a traditional Algerian soup made with freekeh, meat, and vegetables.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup freekeh
  • 500g lamb or beef, cut into pieces
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups water or broth
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Rinse freekeh under cold water and set aside.
  2. In a pot, heat oil and sauté onion and garlic until soft.
  3. Add meat and brown on all sides.
  4. Add carrots, tomatoes, and bell pepper. Cook for a few minutes.
  5. Add water or broth, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil.
  6. Reduce heat and simmer until meat is tender.
  7. Add freekeh and cook until tender, about 20 minutes.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley.

Notes

  • Adjust spices according to your taste.
  • You can replace meat with chicken or keep it vegetarian.
  • Serve with crusty bread for a complete meal.
